Along with the Science & Technology, Literature and Languages, there is a need of economics as well, which supports and satisfy the needs of all other branches of academics. Studied of economics is helping in policy formulation for betterment of the society. In changing and dynamic environment, it became indispensable to understand and study the effect of globalization on the social system and the foreseeable challenges arising from the social, political, cultural and economic conditions. Economics not only create awareness among the generation about rising problems in society, of society and for society but also provide the solution to the problems. The department in the college got established in the educational year 1981-82 as a premier department for teaching economics. It offers undergraduate program in economics and master program in its blue print.

The mission of Department of Economics is to achieve excellence in the teaching of graduate students, the generation of new knowledge through research seminar and discussion, and the provision of service to the university, local region state nation and international communities. The department espouses the philosophy that economics looks at a problem in a variety of ways. This diversity is reflected in its program that exposes the student to the existing schools of thought in economic discipline and there by gives them a broad training.

A distinctive feature of the department is the ready accessibility of its faculty to students. The emphasis is on learning and not just on memorizing. Students have to prepare projects, give presentation, solve problems, midterm and end term examination and in the process there is continuous evaluation. Thus, department of economics prioritizes the academic interest of its students and is student-centric.
