Department of Botany started from 1981-82 & has B.Sc. Botany. The Department is with well equipped laboratory & modern scientific instruments. Learning resources such as bivisual charts, slides, models, herbarium etc .are help the students in learning. The Department also has a Botanical garden with various medicinal plants & gymnosperms. We have a seminar library which helps the students a lot. Every year Botany Department organizes different activities like seminar, webinars, excursion, field visit, specimen collection, mushroom cultivation etc. These activities enable the students to enhance the knowledge beyond classroom teaching.

Activities of the department
- The Department of Botany organized departmental seminar. Attended online webinar on “STRUCTURE OF SARS-COV-2”, conducted by Mrs. Ritanjali Mishra, Reader in Botany on 21 August 2020 from 10.00 AM to 12 NOON.
- On September 11, 2020 Department of Botany organized online webinar on “PLANT TISSUE CULTURE”. 30 students are participated in this webinar.
- On October 5 2020, Department of Botany organized an online webinar on “THE LIFE & BEHAVIOUR OF MICROBES “by using online platform of Google meet.
- Students visited to “PADMAPURAM GARDEN, ARAKU VALLEY, VIZAG” on 15th January 2017 as a part of their syllabus. They visited & collected different species & submitted their final reports.
- On 28th December 2019, Department of Botany was arranged 2days study tour at “AJC BOSE INDIAN BOTANICAL GARDEN, KOLKATA & NEARBY PLACES”. It was helpful for students.
- On 15th February 2020, one day excursion to “PITAMAHAL DAM, ROURKELA”. Students were collected some algal species and herbaria.
- We visited college nearby area organized by Department of Botany. All students of B.Sc. 2nd year, Lect. Mrs. Rahil Tigga were visited this place for collection of some herbaria specimen.
- On 26th November 2022, one day field trip to “NEHERU PARK, ROURKELA” & its nearby area was organized by Department of Botany.
- On 28th February 2023, a demonstration class on “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION” was conducted by Department of Botany.
- On 30th July 2023, observed “VAN MAHOTSAV WEEK-2023” by planting tree in college campus.
- Guided two investigatory projects of B.Sc. Botany such as “GRAFTING & ANALYSIS OF RICE PLANT IN DROUGHT CONDITION”.
- On 7th September 2023, Department of Botany conducted a seminar. The chief guest of seminar was DR. SANATAN PADHAN, READER IN BOTANY, MUNICIPAL COLLEGE, ROURKELA. 30 students are participated in this seminar.
